Students' Union

How it operates

The Students' Union office has three full-time sabbatical officers and twelve part-time officers, who are elected by NUI Galway students every year in March or April. When you pay the student levy at registration, you automatically become a member of the Students' Union.

Student Representation

The Students' Union is the representative voice of the student body. If you have problems with grants, examination fees, lectures, the library or computer facilities, you can talk to the Students' Union Vice-President/Education Officer. The Education Officer works with the University management to improve academic services and is a member of the Academic Council.

The Students' Union looks out for student welfare.  The Union Vice-President/Welfare Officer can help you with problems about accommodation, childcare, study, health, finances and social welfare. Where a problem cannot be dealt with using the resources available to the Union, the Welfare Officer will help you find the best outside assistance possible.

Services

The Students' Union runs the Campus Shop, The Wall Cafe and Smokey's snack bar, as well as the College Bar, where it regularly organises entertainment that is open to all students.
The Students' Union also offers commercial services, such as lockers, cloakroom facilities,  a second-hand bookstore, a grinds register and a health unit.
